It pains me to hear you say we're gonna start doing one of these a week. I needed you and you went AWOL right as I started the A Level. It was a desperate two years searching for revision material, including buying your website subscription twice (disappointed btw) but it's all finished now, C4 exam next week and it's all over. If I could start Sixth Form again I would not choose this godforsaken subject, they don't ever warn you about A Levels that aren't very popular and how few resources are out there.

The admin is agonising! We always scan logbooks and additional pages and keep a digital copy. A moderator moved house one year right at the crucial moment and our AS submissions disappeared in the post. We obviously had backups of the audio files but only had rough copies of logbooks. Such a pain! It's a bit of a headache for our reprographics staff to scan them all but gives us all peace of mind... Patiently waiting for Edexcel to facilitate online submission of work in the future...!

One of my students has chosen "Hold Back the River". Seems like a great choice, though will need an edit. Thinking of losing the guitar-only opening and ending at the kind of false ending. Another has chosen Pretenders "Don't Get Me Wrong", which I love! The groove is quite challenging, but the student is talking about slightly simplifying the kick drum part. Think I'm going to be playing guitar on it myself so thinking about my swing rhythm strumming techniques! The only student who has decided so far is doing Happy Mondays "Holiday". Love that he's chosen a lesser known album track - I think perhaps his decision was based on the duration! Great combination of Shaun Ryder's wailing vocals which will be fun for one of his peers to perform alongside some lovely female backing vocals. Backing vocal requirements are one of the biggest challenges I think, as songs often don't have 2 minutes worth of BVs throughout. Last year there was a bit of additional arrangement going on with the A2 group - very successful I think and gave them a different aspect to consider within the process. This year for example I think the Pretenders song has no backing vocals and the student who has chosen it has ideas of 'aaaahs' following some of the keyboard parts. Should be interesting! Overall I find the non-pitched percussion limitation very frustrating. Tambourine, shakers and claps can be key when producing grooves, and being prohibited from using them often leave the track feeling a little dry. One of my students recorded "Uptown Funk" last year - it came out really well but was crying out for those claps!!

The content here is really helping me refresh on everything before my mocks. I’d maybe recommend editing your own audio in your videos, removing the mouth sounds and large gaps of silence. Otherwise great content!
